Overview

Sound is creating an Occupation Therapy program.  We are looking for a dynamic Occupational Therapist to take on the development, implementation and oversight of this program.

GENERAL SUMMARY

Assess, plan, and implement an Occupational Therapy (OT) rehabilitative program that helps build or restore vocational, homemaking, and daily living skills, as well as general independence, to persons with behavioral health disorders.  This program shall provide OT services to Sound clients directly as well as through a team of OTAs and interns.  This leadership position will provide both programmatic and clinical leadership and oversight of all OT activities at Sound.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

 

  • Partner with Sound leadership to plan and implement and manage sustainable OT services at Sound.
  • Test and evaluate individuals’ physical and mental abilities and analyze medical data to determine realistic rehabilitation goals for clients, formulating assessments and setting plans of care.
  • Use therapeutic techniques, adapt the individual's environment, teach skills, and modify specific tasks that present barriers to the individual.
  • Complete and maintain necessary records.
  • Provide training and supervision in therapy techniques and objectives for students or nurses and other staff.
  • Plan and implement programs and activities to help individuals implement skills adapted to various abilities
  • Select activities that will help individuals learn work and life-management skills within their mental or physical capabilities.
  • Evaluate clients' progress and prepare reports that detail progress.
  • Train caregivers in providing for the needs of a patient during and after therapy.
  • Lay out materials such as puzzles, scissors and eating utensils for use in therapy, and clean and repair these tools after therapy sessions.
  • Consult with rehabilitation team to select activity programs or coordinate occupational therapy with other therapeutic activities.
  • Design and create, or requisition, special supplies and equipment, such as splints, braces, and computer-aided adaptive equipment.
  • Recommend changes in clients' work or living environments, consistent with their needs and capabilities.
  • Develop and participate in health promotion programs, group activities, or discussions to promote client health, facilitate social adjustment, alleviate stress, and prevent physical or mental disability.
  • Help clients improve decision making, abstract reasoning, memory, sequencing, coordination, and perceptual skills, using computer programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Relates to a wide variety of people including members of ethnic and sexual minority populations and is respectful of individual and cultural differences.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Graduation from an accredited School of Occupational Therapy and completion of Clinical Fieldwork.
  • Position requires at least three (3) months prior experience in behavioral health

  • OTR national certification
  • Current OT licensure to practice Occupational Therapy in Washington State

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

Occupational therapists frequently stand for long periods of time, walk or run for long periods of time, repeat the same movements, bend or twist their body, use their hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
